David Bergman serves as the Provost’s Special Advisor on Artificial Intelligence and leads the coordination of AI for ImpaCT.
In this role, Bergman advises University leaders on emerging issues related to AI in teaching, research, workforce development, and university operations. He works across UConn to connect expertise, identify opportunities for collaboration, and help advance a coordinated institutional approach to AI. He also chairs the University’s AI Council, which includes faculty, staff, students, and administrators from across UConn.
Bergman is Associate Dean for Faculty and Research in the School of Business and Professor of Operations and Information Management. His research focuses on optimization, machine learning, and automated decision-making, with an emphasis on connecting technical expertise to practical applications in education, industry, and organizational decision-making.
He has helped lead several AI-related initiatives at UConn, including the development of the AI for Business graduate certificate and AI Day in partnership with the City of Hartford. He also created ThoughtAmp, an AI teaching tool designed to help instructors understand how students engage with AI-supported learning activities.
